Thanos Thanos:
It's important to peel back the false face of an undeserved national reputation for politeness and friendliness to see what really lies underneath. It's like looking into a toilet someone didn't bother to flush after sitting on it for half and hour, but it remains a necessary thing to do every once in a while to keep the myths at bay.

Sorry, but the twattered opinions of the SJWLGBTSKHJFSIRLUGHRUH retards in Toronto
do NOT speak for all Canadians. They should called out for the evil little shits they really are.

Social media is not a true reflection of the population; Labour in the UK found that out
the hard way.

Thanos Thanos:
With the industrial park, several car dealerships, schools, four or five hotels, three gas stations, residences, and a whole shit load of small businesses from restaurants to field services located there alone, if they can't save the Gregoire area it'll be a multi-billion dollar insurance disaster.

Gregoire not only has most of the industrial businesses that service the oilsands, but there was also a huge tent city of the people who couldn't find a place to rent anywhere else. I think the fallout of losing it will be much greater than a few billion.

From what I heard on the radio last night, Gregoire is mostly gone. So is Beacon Hill and most of Abasand. :( CBC here had nothing but coverage from Fort Mac last night, and mostly this morning.

A few friends that I still have there are unreachable. I'm sure they are all right though.

Beacon Hill is 80% ash. That's about 2000 people homeless, 600 homes destroyed.

That already doubles the losses from Slave Lake in 2011. :( Abasand is heavily damaged. Even across the other river, in Thickwood several homes are gone.

Food and fuel is in short supply. Anzac, Wandering River and Grassland are swamped for people. Many people don't have enough gas to get to the next town, and those towns are running out of gas. People can call the RCMP if they are stranded and they will be brought food and fuel.

Yea, wow. :(

The weather forecast for today will be worse that yesterday. Still over 30, high winds from the west, 15% humidity. Tomorrow is expected to be cooler, with the possibility of rain.

Wandering River is now reported to be out of fuel, and waiting on tankers to refill the tanks. Grassland is still OK, but the waits are 2 hours. The road east into Saskatchewan to Prince Albert and North Battleford is starting to be swamped too.

Rescue centers in Edmonton are starting to see thousands of people arriving.

Tankers have left Redwater to refill Wandering River. There are also fuel trucks that can top up people who are stranded without enough to get to the next town.

Protip: Have a bag made up with everything you think you'll need to leave your home on a moments notice. Include copies of photos, ID, medications, and cash money. And clean socks!

There are all sorts of offers of help and support coming on the radio right now (link above).

One guy is leaving Suncor site with a truck load of food, gas and water. He's going to help everyone he can on his way south.

Red Cross is offering a place for families to re-unite. 1-888-350-6070

Word is that Athabasca UFA has plenty of gas. Athabasca is between Wandering River and Boyle, if people thing they don't have enough fuel to make it to Boyle.

With the oil industry in a tail spin, I wonder how Ft McMurray will look when it's time to rebuild? And how much will this affect the oil industry' functioning?

Saw a guy on CBC who had lost everything he worked for for the last two years - likely many people worked a lot longer. Again, with oil down, it won't be as easy for these people to rebuild their lives, compared to a few years ago.

It's a boomtown. With a fire sweeping through right after the boom ends...

Got to think it will be awhile before it fully recovers. If ever.

Shitty situation for sure.

The second largest industry in Fort Mac is forestry and lumber products. This is going to hurt Fort Mac and Canada in general very hard in the short term. In the long term, I think this will be a 'make work' project that Alberta needs.

That said, there are still things that need rebuilding from the 2011 floods and Slave Lake fires.

But they will rebuild. And if you work that hard and don't insure your stuff, I feel for their loss but have little sympathy.

People can also donate to the Red Cross by texting the word REDCROSS to 30333 to give $5 to Alberta Red Cross to help with relief efforts in Fort Mac.
