http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/how-does- ... -1.3575733

Victoria to Ladysmith, and out past Sooke. 8O

bootlegga bootlegga:
This is why it made sense for Trudeau NOT to rush to Fort McMurray last week:

Let Notley do the Fort tour. Trudeau could have come to Edmonton and handed out socks and underwear and serve up a few sandwiches. He could have hosted a pancake breakfast to help raise funds for the evacuees, like the one they had that was so successful sorry I can't remember who put that on.

He could have done lots of things and none of them would have mattered at all. If Trudeau personally blew the fire out with his own lung power or rescued 10 puppies from a burning car he'd still be shit upon from great heights by the "Thanks, Obama" crowd. Let's not pretend there's anything he could have done that would have pleased his critics.

The situation was under control for the evacuees as much as it could have been. The first responders and the volunteers that did the hard work don't need to be interrupted by a photo-op. I don't see the need to have politicians show up like they're our "parents" doling out the comfort. Of all the things that happened over the past few days for the McMurray-ites being props for a visit from Dear Leader(s) should be about the second least-wanted thing to have to happen. If it happened to me I'd need a hug from Justin Trudeau about as much as I'd need another hole drilled in my head.

There's always one in every crowd Brah. :(

He stabbed everyone in the back! Evacuees, fire fighters, officials, people who opened their homes, land for RV's. People who rushed North to help offering fuel, food, water so evacuees wouldn't be stranded, everyone involved was stabbed in the back by that <censored>!

Now that I could agree with - having Trudeau go in and use his charm to comfort some of the evacuees, but the thing is if he did that, he almost certainly would have gotten criticized by others as not doing enough as Lemmy noted.

That's the problem with being a politician, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

That's why I don't have a problem with leaving the crisis to the experts, which was essentially was Notley did. Sure, she led news conferences and checked out Fort Mac a couple times, but for the most part, she relied on experts in fire fighting and disaster management to figure out what could be done and how it was carried out.

Yes Trudeau could have gone to the evacuation centre, had this happened in the East he would have been there with selfie stick ready to go. Notley, she had to be closer to the situation hands on to a certain point having information relayed to her so she could find the time to visit the Red Star for a quick drink. In some ways She has been a better leader than JT during this crisis that's far from being over but as it's been pointed out the real leader has been Ft Mac's Mayor.

I was on my way home around noon on the QE 2 when a south bound cop car passed me. They must of been coming back from YMM, the woman cop in the passenger seat was sleeping with her mouth wide open, looked like she was snoring up a storm. It seemed so strange to see that.

Come on Rachel, let the banks help hand out the credit cards. People are standing in line for 12 hours and still having to come back the next day. Now they are showing up at 3 am to make sure they get in, in time.
