I see a few random sarcastic comments about cops in black uniforms going door to door looking for more victims and guns being taken.

Surely they wouldn't pull another High River this time.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:

Trust me, when you see a wall of flame coming at you, you quickly decide it's only 'stuff' . . .let it burn!

About 15 years ago we almost lost our house to a fire. It came to within 5 km and were on evac alert. Your right, almost all of it is just stuff. Family photos, important papers, some rare books, the family bible and my uncles Ross rifle were about all that got loaded up!

While Trudeau shouldn't be in Ft Mac for obvious reasons he sure as hell could be in Edmonton supporting evacuees like he did with Syrian refugees when they came to Canada. For those evaucees to see their Prime Minister could mean so much to them right now.

Had our house burn down in 1989. I don't wish that experience on anyone.
Part of why I regard insurance companies as the shit-stain on the face of capitalism.
Yeah they eventually paid up... as reluctantly as possible.

Yup and you can be assured that as soon as they're made to pay out for this disaster our insurance rates will rise exponentially.

Apparently a serious issue could be insurance companies will pay out what the homes were worth at the time not what they once were worth which means for some owners it's not worth it to rebuild in Ft Mac.

No surprise, it almost seems like Notley and Trudeau want to let that fire head up to the oilfields, and then let it burn for months.
I said earlier, 'underwhelming'.

Isn't also funny this offer was made last week, but we only find out about it now ?

That would probably put quite a few people underwater on their mortgage, considering
prices in Ft Mac dropped around 20% last year.

Nice.

The insurance bastards always win.

Yup, that's why insurance on the mortgage itself is the better way to go, or to have as a supplement to the usual disaster insurance. It's like an extra $80 to $100 a month on the mortgage but it's worth it.

Don't know if people have seen this but, it's an interesting take on Fort Mac and pretty much accurate.

Even if they were paid out what the homes were worth insurance rates will go up not just for Ft Mac residents but everyone else in the country for everything auto, business, home.
