Wow, took longer than I thought.
Yep, that's what we need. A bunch of pols crowding in for photo ops getting in the way of the people dealing with the situation.

ROFL. People want someone standing by in the event of a once (now twice) in a lifetime disaster, but no one wants to pay the taxes needed to train everyone and keep everyone on standby.

Alta_redneck Alta_redneck: And then there's this bs. Oil and gas companies are stepping up big time by continuing to pay people till the next pay cycle, and some are giving $2500 on top of that for disaster expenses. After that, I doubt the goodwill will continue. But people were losing their shit a couple weeks ago over a $10b defect. Now they are losing their shit because it's not $20B or $30B?

29 million now raised by Red Cross. Don't know if that includes govt matching, story won't open yet. And the little touches: $1: Fort McMurray bride who lost wedding dress in wildfire helped by Torontonians Torontonians offer up more than 100 wedding dresses to bride in need http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/t ... -1.3568070Guess even the hated political dilettantes have a heart. It takes a while for a disaster like this to really think in. I think we're going to see Canada mobilize even more in the next few weeks. Maybe it will even help to heal the rift between Alberta and ROC (such as it is) a bit.

How about a phone call to Edmonton Garrison, hello do you people know anything about roadside refueling ? Actually there was live fire training at Wainwright last week involving 3500 personal maybe it's still on going. Either way im sure there's still a few there packing up this week and could have been on highway 63 to meet the start of the traffic fleeing Ft Mac. with in a couple of hours. Probably can't make that call until a state of emergency has been declared.

I was at the Jays' game last night. They put a number up on the Jumbotron that you could text to and donate $10. Rogers, in its infinite generosity, donated $100K. That's barely $3 per person in the stadium last night, one game. Same with Tim Horton's. $100K.
Corporate responsibility my ass. $100K from corporations the size of those two is an insult. Step up or don't do anything.

What this has shown is no matter where you live it's a good idea to have an emergency evacuation kit filled with copies or original documents insurance etc. Bare essentials, 2 days change of clothing, water, food and a second adapter for your cell phone or a second phone with current contacts. When something happens you grab that kit and GTFO.

andyt andyt: Looks like the slime has begun. Took a couple of days longer than I thought. They are right about Trudeau though. There may be money coming for disaster relief, just like for the other major disasters we've had the last few years. But he might have said something other that 'we'll give you some of your money back, if you first give them more of your money'.

That can make a huge difference in evacuating because it can give you a piece of mind if that's even possible. The Government has also asked people avoid the use of recreational vehicles this weekend for obvious reasons. On Twitter someone asked "Can't the Government use ice-nine to put the wildfires out?"
