There reporting a third explosion in the reactor the fuel rods were exposed on CNN and Montreal news stations MTL Time 7:30pm.

CNN and many American station reported 16 Navel Airmen have been detected with radiation from the first explosion, after they did a fly-by, one had it on his skin. All clothing was destroyed and the sailors got washdown. The Helicopter also received a wash and shine.

All US Navel ships located in those areas have been ordered to relocate away from the wind pattern carrying Radio Active fallout.

$1:
An explosion was heard early Tuesday morning at the troubled No. 2 reactor of the quake-hit Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, the government said, about five hours after work resumed to inject seawater into it to prevent overheating of exposed fuel rods.

Shortly after the 6:10 a.m. incident, the radiation level exceeded the legal limit to reach 965.5 micro sievert per hour, and it is feared that the reactor's pressure-suppression system was damaged, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency.

NHK is reporting that a vapour can be seen rising above no.3 reactor and TEPCO isn't sure what it is, or what is causing it.. 8O

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
Reuters is reporting that the USN is repositioning its ships and aircraft further away because it detected low levels of contamination.

Chatter from my friends say that the helicopter crews that went through the airborne plume of radiation are under decontamination protocol (anyone who's ex-USN knows this is very not fun) and the two affected helicopters were thrown overboard fron the USS Ronald Reagan when it was determined they were 'class seven' material.

I'm not familiar with the 'class seven' thing - anyone else?
Why wouldn't they just hose them down and flush all that shit off?

UPDATE:

NHK reported that 17 people from the Reagan were treated for low level contamination after taking part in rescue missions. They received the equivalent of one month of natural radiation. The helicopters were decontaminated with detergent.

The suppression pool seems to be compromised, it's a pool of water
at the bottom of the reactor.
Radiation level of 8000+ micro sievert per hour, about 3 years worth in one shot.

2 things they are not talking about:

the spent fuel that is also being kept inside the primary vessels.

reactor 3 is MOX, using a mix of plutonium and uranium.

Plutonium would cause even worse contamination and it is somewhat unstable.

Anytime you get vapour rising above a nuclear reactor that can't be a good thing. 8O

Although, I'd like all the CNN's of the world to settle down, take a breather and cease bringing in by the thousands every "expert" on nuclear fusion they can find, including the janitor from the basement with a luminescent dial on his watch.

We have now been bombarded with every possible scenario ranging from armageddon to the reoccurance of the teenage mutant ninja turtles and to be quite honest, the vastly divergent opinions being given by these "experts" has done nothing but instill a sense of fear, trepidation and hysteria in half of North America.

You out West Scape?

I remember that the fall-out from Chernobyl reached the hills of the UK and got into the food chain. As we ex Cold War types know, this stuff travels fast.

Aye, on the Island. Tsunami and earthquakes news is very revialnt here. No doubt rads will go up here soon.

Japanese PM Kan is asking people to remain calm as they try and minimize radioactive contamination. He's being very tight lipped....even for a Japanese. A minister is now reporting that no. 4 reactor has a fire going on, but it was shutdown at the time of the quake, and contained only spent rods. However radiation is leaking from no.4. So this now involves 4 reactors.

I've seen comments that the US (or anyone capable) needs to use some of their surveillance technology to determine where these spent fuel rods stored in the destroyed reactor buildings have ended up. They are apparently so hot after being used up that they have to be immersed in pools for years afterward. The concern is that they will ignite and that would be very bad..
